PRP in Tunisia

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is prepared from the patient's own blood. Blood contains platelets that release growth factors, whose function is to trigger tissue repair mechanisms: this is what makes it a support for healing.

At the clinic, PRP is used mainly after a transplant, to support healing and the recovery of the scalp. Having used and evaluated a number of therapeutic approaches, Dr Seffen now favours the treatments whose efficacy is best established: against miniaturisation and for regrowth, these are finasteride and minoxidil.

The treatment

Physicians first used PRP to speed up the healing of joints damaged after an injury or surgery. A sample of the patient's blood is taken and centrifuged so as to separate the platelets from the plasma. The platelet-rich part is then injected into the area to be treated, to encourage cell renewal and healing.

After a transplant

Coming out of a transplant, the donor and recipient areas carry thousands of micro-incisions that have to heal. This is when the clinic mainly uses PRP: to support healing and the recovery of the scalp.

And against hair loss?

Used on its own against androgenetic alopecia, PRP gives results that vary by protocol, and the evidence for it remains uneven. At the clinic, it is therefore not the treatment for hair loss: finasteride and minoxidil are the mainstays. The clinic keeps watch for new therapies whose value is firmly demonstrated.
